Sustainability
The medical industry is one of the largest producers of waste, much of which ends up as microplastics in our oceans. Working in hospital systems, I wasn't just a witness to that waste—I was complicit. Opening Duende meant finally having control over the materials I use so I could reduce my footprint.
That means choosing biodegradable gloves and trash bags, reusable absorbent pads, real linens, recycled paper products, and minimizing unnecessary plastic whenever possible. Sustainability is considered in every purchasing decision I make.
Equity
Fatphobia, racism, classism, and sexism are still common experiences in healthcare. I'm committed to creating a space that's welcoming and safe for people of every race, body size, sexuality, gender identity, income, and ability.
I offer a sliding scale because everyone deserves access to compassionate, respectful care. And if there's ever something I could be doing better, I want to hear it.
Support
I believe where we spend our money matters. Whenever possible, I prioritize supporting women-, queer-, and POC-owned businesses, as well as local businesses and artists.
Giving back is part of Duende, too. I donate 3% of profits to organizations working toward human rights and environmental protection.
